Water, water, water . . . capturing movement is complicated by how light behaves in water. For example, when I’m sitting on the bottom of the pool, I can see beyond the surface to the trees and sky above. The same is not true of my camera. Film captures surface reflections and nothing of what’s above. The results are wonderfully abstract shimmers of light surrounding the human form.
At night the pool lights add an additional surreal element because we don’t expect the brightest light to be beneath the water.
